A Decade Since Diana...

The news is swamped with the coverage of the ten-year anniversary of Princess Diana's death, so it was rather eerie, and yet very special to walk to Kensington Palace this afternoon. Droves of people from all around the world came to pay their respects to Princess Diana, leaving notes and flowers, as well as some banners that I was able to take a few shots of.

I still remember where I was ten years ago... I was driving with my family and we heard the news on the radio. I don't think I realized the impact of the news, but I remember it really bothered my mom. I also remember watching the funeral procession on TV really early in the morning the next week, and seeing them focus on the card on the casket that said Mum. :(

This is probably my favorite banner. Camilla... wudda hoe...

Lots of people came out to pay their respects :)

Like I said... LOTS of people came out to pay their respects. Yikes! :(

Lots and lots of beautiful flowers. It was a really nice day in London :)

Maybe I'm somehwat igorant, but besides being a paparazzi's dream and somewhat of a spectacle, I find it amazing how big Diana as a person was and has become.

I mean, it's like she has been put on the level of a Martin Luther King Jr., or maybe even bigger than that. Granted, she was a great humanitarian.

In the end, I guess it's just an a-ma-zing (tragic)story. You couldn't come up with a betetr plot line for a fictional novel about the Royal Palace. Well, I suppose Shakespeare did with Romeo and Juliet. This tragedy is non-fiction though.

As much as I disliked the movie "The Queen" it did shed light on how thsi story got even bigger with all the dramz coming from the House of Windsor and theri negelect to acknoweldge and adress Diana's death properly.

Blahhh... not sure why I wrote all this but sometimes you gotta just do it.

Great timing to be there Dave. You rock!!!!

I think the circumstances are incredibly unfortunate, but at the end of the day, THREE people have died, and we have an incredible responsibility to remember and honor their memory. I would like to think that this has not been an opportunity for media to capitalize and make a quick story, but here I am reporting on what I saw. And even though it's not someone as small as me making anything off of this, there is the mainstream media which will continue to thrive off of pieces like this. In front of Kensington Palace I saw hoards of journalists and camera crew getting their shot of this, and to me, it was just as bad as the lady I saw selling CDs of Diana's funeral procession music. Tacky. Cruel. Gross. And disheartening. But what can you do?

I agree with you though, a very sad story that is made about to be something much much bigger.

Hmm....
